The "It" Cookie of the Season
Speculoos Spectacular
Traditional Belgian Spiced Speculoos Cookies
Speculoos (pronounced SPEK-yoo-loes) cookies are arguably one of the most popular baked goods of Belgium. Nostalgic for her native country of Belgium, Evy Ballegeer, owner of Little Belgians, started making these delicately spiced cookies in Berkeley, California, pairing Belgian traditions with all organic ingredients.
Evy's cookies—packed in a luxurious white gift box—are crisp and buttery highlighting warm spices like cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and pepper.
Each cookie is stamped with a design harkening back to memories from Evy's childhood—an umbrella for the rainy afternoons she spent with her family nibbling on speculoos cookies, a bike for the Tour de Flanders, a bird referencing one of Belgium's national sports, pigeon racing, and finally, a Belgian house inspired by the medieval-style buildings of Ghent (one of Evy's favorite cities).
These delightful cookies are traditionally served alongside a cup of coffee, but are equally delicious shared over a pot of tea or mugs of hot chocolate.
