Looking at the World Through Lemon-Colored Glasses

18 April 2013

Forget rose colored glasses, this season we're sporting LEMON-tinted specs. After months of comforting soups and hearty stews, it's time to spring into lighter, livelier flavors...like lemons! Lemons were the first thing that came to mind, because what's brighter on the tongue than a pop of lemon? A craving for tartness and pucker led us to explore ways to zest up our meals in shades of lemon yellow. Bathed in lemon hues, honey gets a burst of citrus, pasta takes on a delicate new dimension and salt is enhanced with a vibrant kick. From cocktails to mains to desserts, these lemony products can be used to accent a meal or steal the show.

Very Lemon Curd ~ NEW!

The Bay Tree's Very Lemon Curd is indeed just that - very lemony. Unctuous and tangy, this traditional English curd makes for easy (but impressive) desserts. Pour curd into a prepared tart shell and top with raspberries. Or, add a spritz of citrus to strawberry shortcake by folding a couple tablespoons into whipped cream for a quick lemon mousse.

Olio Verde Limone Olive Oil

Whole Sicilian lemons grown on the Olio Verde estate are crushed along with Nocellara olives to make this oil. The flavor of the lemons is a perfect complement to the inherent citrus quality of the oil itself. Partner this bold olive oil with fish and seafood, or for a light starter, drizzle over a halibut crudo topped with citrus segments and toasted Bronte pistachios

Lemon Fettucine

If you could describe a pasta as delicate and graceful, this would be the one. The subtle notes of lemon in these nests of fettucine heighten and pair well with cream-based sauces, such as Pasta Carbonara with English Peas. The lemon tames the richness of the pancetta, eggs and cheese while complementing the fresh peas.

Dolce Alveare Lemon Blossom Honey

This elegant honey is blossoming with floral notes and a burst of citrus in the finish. Use it to make a simple syrup for drinks and cocktails-just combine equal parts honey and hot water. Try in a new take on an Old Fashioned Cocktail.

Lemon Pepper Salt from KL Keller

This is not your mama's lemon pepper salt. Made with Spanish salt, lemon oil, dried lemon zest and cracked pepper, this salt blend packs a punch of flavor and shines brightest in simple preparations. Sprinkle over grilled asparagus or roasted baby artichokes. Or, do as we do, use on everything!
