Super Bowl Cheese Balls 5 Ways
With the Super Bowl on the horizon, we've got game day snacks on the brain. We asked Market Hall Foods Retail Director, cheese expert and all-around culinary maven Juliana Uruburu for an easy-to-make appetizer that's sure to score points at any Super Bowl party. Her answer: a homemade cheese ball. Creamy, classic crowd pleasers, cheese balls come together in minutes and can be customized with your favorite ingredients.
Juliana came up with five winning cheese ball combinations for you to try. The base of any great cheese ball is cream cheese (we love Gina Marie Cream Cheese, which is made simply with cultured milk, cream, and salt) but you can always substitute it with fresh goat cheese. Whether you use these suggestions or get creative with your own flavor combinations, be sure to read the tips below to ensure your Super Bowl Cheese Ball is a touchdown.
Cheese Ball Tips
- Start with room temperature cream cheese or goat cheese to make it easier to add in the other ingredients.
- Be bold with seasonings. Add in plenty of condiments and spices, such as honey, hot sauce, Worcestershire, garlic and onion powder.
- Shape your appetizer into anything the festivities call for, such as a football for Super Bowl, a pumpkin for Halloween or a heart for Valentine's Day.
- If making cheese balls in advance: After shaping (but before adding the outer toppings), wrap the cheese ball tightly in plastic wrap or parchment to keep it fresh and maintain its shape.
- Coat the cheese ball right before serving so the outer toppings look neat and taste their freshest.
