A Surprising New Pantry Favorite

Mustard Seed Oil by Naturally from Nature

Mustard Seed Oil has far more uses in the kitchen than just Indian cuisine applications. Indeed, Mustard Seed Oil may be indispensible when sautéing trout or making seafood curry. However, we discovered the incredible flavor, versatility and purity of the Mustard Seed Oil by Naturally from Nature make it one of the best all-purpose oils in our pantry.

What really excited us about this oil is its remarkable flavor. A delicious wasabi-like spice fills the palate without overwhelming it. Immediately, we thought of sautéing bitter greens with pine nuts and garlic slivers. Its fragrant spice begs to be used in aioli or mayonnaise recipes. Imagine the zesty spiciness Mustard Seed Oil will bring to a vinaigrette for a salad of cracked crab or blanched rock shrimp. Don't forget that this fabulous oil has a very high smoke point - perfect for deep frying chicken, lentil fritters, cauliflower florets and more. Anything fried or sautéed in this oil benefits from a gentle infusion of its spicy notes. Even baking applications benefit - your cornbread muffins will never be the same!

Grown and manufactured in Australia, the Mustard Seed Oil by Naturally from Nature is the only mustard seed oil approved as food grade by the FDA due to its low level of erucic acid, a controversial fatty acid common in mustard seeds. Rather than genetically modify the mustard seed as most producers, the smart people behind Naturally from Nature have, since 1989, been able to remove the erucic acid through selective breeding of mustard plants. The result is a safe, healthy and flavorful oil which you can use with confidence. Furthermore, since the oil is cold pressed in the same manner as Extra Virgin Olive Oil, the Mustard Seed Oil by Naturally from Nature is low in saturated fat, and rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids making it a very healthy oil to use regularly in your kitchen.

In a processor, add egg yolks, Dijon mustard, vinegar and salt. Blend at a medium speed until smooth. Very slowly, add a steady drizzle of Mustard Seed Oil to mixture while blending, until a smooth, creamy consistency is achieved. Adjust salt to taste. Cover and refrigerate. To kick the spice level up a notch, add just a couple of drops of your favorite hot sauce to this mayonnaise while blending.

Organic Harissa Spread from Les Moulins Mahjoub

A flavorful blend of chiles, extra virgin olive oil, salt and spices, Harissa is an iconic North African tabletop condiment found in every home, restaurant, and market throughout the region. Traditionally used to enhance cous cous dishes or tagine stews, it is used much as we use ketchup here in the United States, and is mass-produced in as many versions.

We are very excited to introduce Organic Harissa Spread by Les Moulins Mahjoub, a Tunisian brand specializing in artisanal regional cuisine ingredients. Their Organic Harissa Spread achieves a complex richness enhanced by the generous addition of sun-dried tomatoes in the paste. With a medium heat and a slight smokiness, the umami-packed savory flavor of this Organic Harissa Spread makes it one of the most commonly used condiments in our pantry. Slather it over grilled lamb or poultry. Stir it into sautéed vegetables or your favorite marinara sauce. Drop a dollop over an omelet, pizza, or even your breakfast potatoes. Blend with feta, ricotta or cream cheese for a simple and delicious dip. It's so good, you may find yourself using it at every meal.
