Mostarda is a sweet, piquant Italian condiment made by simmering fruit in syrup spiced with mustard essential oil. Until now, this pungent preserve hasn't been seen much outside of northern Italy. But we're aiming to change all that, beginning with the most American of meals, Thanksgiving dinner. Let's take it course by course:
For a quick, beautiful appetizer, make crostini topped with Gorgonzola and glossy Fig Mostarda (photo inspiration at right) or skip the crostini and enjoy mostarda with a selection of cheeses.
Toss Fig Mostarda with roasted potatoes or mix with mashed sweet potato.
Top slices of cheesecake with Mixed Fruit Mostarda to give your palate a little punch at the end of the meal.
Make French toast topped with mascarpone and Clementine Mostarda. Serve with bacon or sausages.
