The Sweetest of Celebrations

04 September 2015

Hey, did you hear the latest buzz? September is National Honey Month! Now it is the perfect time to celebrate one of the hardest working members of our ecosystem—the glorious honey bee. In honor of these industrious workers and the ambrosial nectar they produce, we’ve added a new honey from Greece—Pure Greek Honey with Honeycomb—that is truly the bee’s knees.

Pure Greek Honey with Honeycomb is the essence of Greek flora in a jar. Honey bees have to pollinate about two million flowers to make one pound of honey, so you’re literally tasting over 1.5 million wildflowers from the Southwestern region of Messina in one 14-ounce jar of honey (that’s a lot!).

This amber-hued unfiltered honey is sweet, but not cloying, with soft floral notes—and, for honeycomb lovers, comes packed with a gorgeous chunk of fresh comb. Its thick, pourable texture and delicate flavor make it the ideal all-purpose honey—drizzle over your morning yogurt or peanut butter toast, whisk into vinaigrettes and dressings, stir into tea or use in baking. The honeycomb makes a stunning addition to any cheese plate. Read on for more ways to sweeten your September

9 Ways I Love You, Honey

  1. Move over, oatmeal. Refresh your morning routine with Breakfast Farro topped with roasted fruit and honey.
  2. For a sweet 'n' savory glaze, whisk together 2 teaspoons each balsamic vinegar and honey, and brush over roast chicken for the final 10 minutes of roasting.
  3. Welcome the flavors of fall with Warm Rice Salad with Aleppo-Roasted Squash.
  4. Shake up an Old-Fashioned Cocktail. Add extra depth and warmth with honey simple syrup.
  5. Mix ricotta cheese with honey and a touch lemon zest. Spread on crostini and top with slices of fresh fig. Suddenly, you’re in Santorini.
  6. September also means it's football season! Be the toast of the tailgate with some Sweet 'n' Spicy Mustard Wings.
  7. Pack the power of Zeus—make your own energy bars
  8. Sweeten whipped cream with honey for simple, yet nuanced dip for fresh fruit.
  9. Share the love. Sweeten someone’s tea break. Give a jar of Pure Greek Honey with Honeycomb and a tin of Mariage Frères tea.

A Sweet Start to the New Year

September also ushers the start of the Jewish new year—Rosh Hashanah. To celebrate, honey is traditionally served with apple slices to symbolize good wishes towards a sweet new year ahead. Sweeten your holiday table with our entire selection of honeys—from mild Californian wildflower honey and bright Italian citrus blossom honey to bold, full-bodied Spanish chestnut honey.
